What is Chevron flooring?
Chevron flooring features wooden planks cut at a consistent angle, most commonly 45 or 60 degrees, and laid so that the ends meet at a sharp point, forming a continuous V-shaped zigzag pattern. This creates a sleek, symmetrical design with strong visual direction and a natural sense of flow throughout the space. Unlike herringbone, where rectangular planks overlap each other, Chevron planks meet end to end, resulting in a continuous and seamless pattern.
The word “Chevron” originates from the military insignia once used on uniforms, symbolising strength and precision. Today, it remains a signature design element in luxury homes, restaurants and boutique commercial interiors.

What types of Chevron flooring are there?
Chevron 45º angle
There is something special about Chevron oak flooring. When installed at a 45-degree angle, each plank meets precisely to form an elegant V-shaped pattern. The result is a oak floor that feels dynamic yet timeless, adding both depth and warmth to modern and classic interiors across South Africa.
Chevron oak floors are available in several dimensions: 70×420, 100×600, 120×600, 140×700, and 180×780 mm. The smaller sizes, such as 70×420 and 100×600, create a more frequent pattern that gives a vibrant and detailed appearance, while the larger planks provide a calm and spacious look.
Key Highlights
- The 45° V-shaped design adds energy, depth, and timeless beauty to any interior.
- Made from the highest quality European oak
- Fully customisable in size, colour, also perfect for bespoke South African design projects.
Chevron – Precision at 60º
When chevron planks are installed at a 60-degree angle, they create a striking pattern often called the “sergeant’s stripe.” This bold layout gives the floor direction, balance, and a strong architectural feel. Compared to traditional herringbone, Hungarian Point offers a calmer and more refined look that feels elegant and timeless and fits perfectly in South-African homes.
All DutzWood colours and finishes are available in this pattern. You can even combine Hungarian Point in one part of your home and matching planks in another. The colour and texture remain perfectly consistent, creating a seamless and sophisticated flow throughout your space.
