Herringbone flooring – Engineered for South-Africa
Herringbone flooring has been used for centuries to add elegance and character to interiors of every style, from modern homes to heritage spaces. Unlike Chevron, where planks meet at 45 or 60-degree angles to form a sharp V-shaped pattern, Herringbone planks are installed at a 90-degree angle. Our herringbone oak floors combine natural beauty with technical perfection. Each plank has a top layer of the highest quality European oak and a bottom layer of marine plywood, making it water-resistant and exceptionally stable, ideal for South African climates.
Our Signature herringbone finishes
Classic herringbone 6×30 up to 12x60cm
Classic herringbone flooring is characterised by its smaller plank sizes, which make the herringbone pattern appear more frequently across the floor. This creates a refined and elegant look that suits both modern and traditional interiors.
The planks are available in sizes 6×30, 7×28, 7×35, 7×42 and 12×60 cm, with a length-to-width ratio between 1:4 and 1:6. This means each plank is four to six times longer than it is wide, giving the floor its timeless and balanced appearance. Our classic herringbone floor is crafted with a top layer of premium European oak and a water-resistant marine plywood base, ensuring long-lasting stability in the varied climate of the Western Cape. Custom sizes can also be made on request, allowing every floor to be perfectly tailored to your space.
Whalebone, Big, Bigger, Biggest
Whalebone flooring is a wider and larger version of the classic herringbone pattern. The generous plank sizes make it perfect for larger spaces, where the bold pattern creates a calm and timeless look.
Available in sizes 140×700, 180×900, 220×1100, 260×780, 300×900 and 380×1140 mm, the Whalebone design has a width-to-length ratio between 1:3 and 1:5. Each plank has s a top layer of premium European oak and a water-resistant marine plywood base, ensuring strength and stability in the Cape Town climate.
The natural character of European oak adds warmth, texture and elegance, making Whalebone flooring a perfect choice for open and spacious interiors.
Slimbone, 5×70 or 9x81cm
Slimbone flooring is a sophisticated variation of the classic herringbone pattern, designed to bring refined elegance and depth to modern South African interiors. The long and narrow planks create a graceful sense of movement, making this pattern ideal for both contemporary and classic homes in Cape Town and beyond.
With a width-to-length ratio between 1:9 and 1:14, Slimbone highlights the natural beauty of oak. Available in 50×700 mm and 90×810 mm, the proportions enhance the elegance of any space. The planks can be aged to add authentic character, with softened edges and natural wear that give the impression of a floor rich in history and warmth. The result is a luxurious oak herringbone floor that combines timeless European craftsmanship with the durability and style needed for South African living.
High quality herringbone – European oak
Our herringbone floors combine timeless European craftsmanship with engineering designed to perform in South African conditions. Each plank is made from oak sourced from responsibly managed European forests, using 125- to 200-year-old trees that grow slowly to create a dense, durable grain and deep natural tone. This rich character makes European oak the preferred choice of architects and interior designers who value authenticity, texture and longevity.
The top layer consists of 4.5 or 6 mm of premium European oak, supported by a 12 or 15 mm marine-grade birch plywood base. This structure provides exceptional stability, ensuring minimal movement even with changes in temperature or humidity. Perfectly suited for underfloor heating and cooling systems, our engineered herringbone floors maintain their strength and beauty in every environment, from coastal homes in the Western Cape to high-altitude properties inland.
Strongest available coating – Limitless possibilities
Each herringbone wooden floor is finished with our unique DUTI-Coating. A titanium-based coating that is seven times stronger than traditional UV oil or hardwax finishes. It combines the beauty of a natural hardwax with the strength of modern technology. The result: a matte, natural look with outstanding resistance to scratches, stains, and moisture. This advanced protection ensures that your herringbone floor remains beautiful for decades with minimal maintenance.
Every herringbone oak floor is custom-made in our own production facility. We offer every possible surface treatment. You can choose from our collection or request a fully bespoke colour developed specifically for your project.
